These Familiar Streets is a kind of street gang roleplay, with more of a Thief Lord-esque setting. Orphans and abandoned children alike and taken into the family and cared for--most stay only a few years, though there are several "lifers" if you will, who don't plan to leave ever. However, none are permitted stay past their early twenties, and those that have left can never return, for they bear with them the unnatural taste of the outside world.
The Gang is constantly on the move--they never stay in one place for longer than a couple of days. Often, members will dissapear for extended lengths of time and it's very rare for them all to be in the same place at the same time. Moves are made without warning, and the only thing left behind in old headquarters is a slip of paper with a riddle of the whereabouts for the next location--for those that are not present when the move takes place. As you can imagine, members of the Gang get good at decoding riddles fast.
Ranks are taken very seriously in the Gang--in the event that a member is lost, the next lower Rank does not take their position. The successor is usually picked from the Respected Ones (see Ranks.) No one can give or take away a rank besides the Leader or, in the absence of one, the Second in Command.
Members are mostly found alone--some seek out the Gang, and others are sought. However, NO child in the Gang has a family outside of it, whether or orphan or runaway. The lucky few may have a pet--the average mangy cat or dog; sometimes even birds or rats. The Gang is known for having a strange affiliation with the animals of the street. Nothing is above their tastes--they steal, fight, and run from the law officers constantly on their tails. But more importantly, they love, because--no matter how dysfunctional--they are a family, and that is what families do.
